Letter Writing Campaign

Why should the Colonial Spanish Mustang be designated as the NC state horse?

That was the subject of a state mandated writing assessment for all Currituck County 4th graders . . . but any student in North Carolina can participate. Examples of letters written by students can be read by clicking HERE.  Student letters, directed to their State Legislators, can include science, local, state and national history as reasons why the state of North Carolina should have the Colonial Spanish Mustang designated as our state horse. Links to helpful information are listed below.

Students should also write their local County Commissioners, asking them to pass a resolution in support of their efforts.

Students in Carteret County should send their letters to the Shackleford Banks Foundation, 306 Golden Farm Road, Beaufort, NC 28516.  All other students should send their letters to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, P.O. Box 361, Corolla, NC 27927.
