Wild Horse Days July 7, 8, 9
Watch Colonial Spanish Mustang stallions "Cayuse Gold" and Wayward Wind" demonstrate the athleticism and versatility of this endangered breed.
Mark your calendars for the 6th Annual Wild Horse Days in Corolla. Sponsored by the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, this three day event is bigger and better than ever! WHD celebrates the presence and significance of the wild Colonial Spanish Mustangs living on the Currituck Outer Banks.
Activities will take place at the Wild Horse Museum, Currituck Heritage Park, and the Corolla Light Town Center.
This year’s theme is “Horses Helping Horses” and will showcase the versatility, athleticism, and intelligence of the Colonial Spanish Mustang, as well as a number of other related breeds.
Leave your car every day and take a ride to and from Old Corolla Village in a cart pulled by a formerly wild Corolla.
Come to Heritage Park on Tuesday and Wednesday to watch Sharon Sluss, owner of Rainbow’s End Farm, Suffolk, VA, put her magnificent Colonial Spanish Mustang stallion, “Cayuse Gold”, through the intricate steps of dressage and take her colorful stallion, “Wayward Wind” over jumps.
A huge Silent Auction will take place on Wednesday, July 8th, at the Corolla Light Town Center. There’ll be something for everyone and all proceeds will benefit the Corolla Wild Horse Fund! To see the list of great items to be auctioned, CLICK HERE!
Wednesday, natural horse trainer, Steve Edwards, of Mill Swamp Indian Horses, Smithfield, VA, will offer a wild horse training clinic. Watch as he works in the round pen to gentle a wild horse and see his young students ride Corollas that were wild on the beach only a year ago…or less. You can also see a Chincoteague pony and a wild Mustang from Nevada.
Activities at the Wild Horse Museum will also take place on Tuesday and Thursday. Bring the entire family for great food, toe-tapping music, face painting, kids games and craft activities, Dunk a Deputy in our dunking booth, vote for your favorite wild horse photo in our calendar contest, and visit the Wild Horse Museum to learn about the history and the future of the wild horses.
At the Corolla Light Shopping Center on Wednesday, kids can climb on one of Corolla’s fire engines, see a Monster Truck, play games, pet a gentled Spanish Mustang, win prizes at a treasure hunt, and listen to great music. Adults can bid on hundreds of valuable items at our annual silent auction.
