CWHF Annual Calendar Contest

Submissions due by March 15, 2024!

Are you an amateur photographer with great pictures of the wild horses of the Currituck Outer Banks?

Have you always wanted to have your photography published?

Do you value the wild horses and want to support the mission of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund?

If you answered YES to these questions, the annual CWHF Calendar Contest is for you!

Winning images are selected by a panel of  judges, and the winners are published in the following year’s calendar. Proceeds from the sale of the calendar support the CWHF mission to protect and preserve the wild Banker mustangs of Corolla and the land on which they live.

The 2025 calendar contest is now open for submissions, so that the calendar will be available for purchase in spring of 2025. Every year our calendar becomes more and more popular, and every year we have more and more printed. Plan now to have your photography in the next calendar!

Winning photos will appear in the 2025 Calendar. Finalist photos may be displayed on the Corolla Wild Horse Fund website and perhaps on CWHF’s Facebook page.

OFFICIAL RULES

  1. Contest is open to amateur photographers only. Photos submitted may not be posted for profit by the photographer. Photos submitted by professional photographers for hire will not be selected.
  2. This completed, signed entry form must accompany your submission. Each participant/contestant may submit up to three (3) photos, either current or historical, of wild horses that are part of the herd north of Corolla, NC.
  3. Photos must be submitted via Entry Form in JPG format. Files must be labeled with photographer’s last name, photo number 1, 2 or 3, and the approximate date of the photo before uploaded (eg: smith-1-march2023.jpg). Photos must not have any text added (e.g., a title or photographer’s name). Low resolution images that lose quality when enlarged to calendar size will be rejected.
  4. IMPORTANT: A good quality image file will usually be over 2 MB’s (megabytes). If your image file size is less than 1MB, its resolution will be too low for our calendar and will not be considered as a proper submittal. Photos taken on mobile devices are permitted but may not be chosen if the resolution is not quality.
  5. Photographers may resubmit photos from previous years, provided the photos were not prior winners. Please follow all the same rules and procedures.
  6. Photos will be registered with a random code as they are received, and judges will have no information regarding the photographer.
  7. Submissions must be sent by March 15, 2024. No photos will be accepted after this date.
  8. Judges will view randomized and anonymous submissions and select their favorite images. The 13 final calendar images will be chosen from the finalist pool of images.
  9. The winning photographers will be notified by April 1, 2024 and some of the finalist photos may be displayed on the Corolla Wild Horse Fund website and/or the Fund’s Facebook page. Winning photos will appear in the 2025 Calendar.
  10. Photographs that violate any portion of the Currituck County Wild Horse Ordinance will not be accepted (Chapter 3; Sections 3-26 through 3-38). Additionally, any alleged violations will be investigated and reported to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office. Respect the wild horses. Stay at least 50 feet away from them, and do not feed or entice them.
